Lexmark CX8xx and XCxxxx: Load Staples or Staples Empty Messages Appear on a Newly Set Up Finisher

  • 42K1267 & 42K1268, 68 Short Multi-position staple, mailbox, & hole punch finisher

The Multi-position Staple Hole Punch Finisher (MSHPF) comes with a staple cartridge and cartridge holder installed. A piece of tape holds these parts in place during shipping.

In some instances, the cartridge and holder can fall out during shipping. When this happens, once the finisher is attached to the printer and the system is booted, you will see a “Load Staples” error message.

Should you continue from that message, you will then get a “Staples Empty” message.

When the machine reports “Load Staples”, it will move the staple carriage to the door in front of the finisher.

The left-hand image below shows how a staple carriage should look when the staple holder and cartridge are in place. If the staple cartridge and holder have fallen out, then the cartridge will look like the one shown in the right-hand image.

If the staple cartridge and holder have fallen out, they need to be removed to avoid damaging the unit and to get the device running.

The cartridge and holder can be recovered in the left side of the finisher. In this case, please call Lexmark Technical Support to set up service.
