Lexmark CX/CS8xx_72x and XC/Cxxxx: Entering Sleep Mode Fails and Exiting Sleep Mode is Sluggish or Hesitates

Affected Products:

Single-Function: CS720, CS725, CS727, CS728, C4150, CS820, CS827 and C6160

Multifunction: CX725, CX727, XC4140, XC4143, XC4150, XC4153, CX820, CX825, CX827, CX860, XC6152, XC6153, XC8155, XC8160 and XC8163

Issue Description:

Failure to enter sleep mode is accompanied by the message, "CANNOT ENTER SLEEP MODE: The devcie is busy and cannot enter Sleep Mode." Also, a secondary symptom exhibiting a delay may be seen when exiting Sleep Mode.

Solution:

  1. Reboot the device or awaken it to return to a Ready state.

  2. Check your printer's firmware level.

  3. Based on your device's existing firmware-code level, you can update to the firmware levels suggested below:

    • PP.031.088 or earlier

      • Update to PP.033.098 or later. (FW3.3.98)

    • PP.31.089 or later, which indicates FW3.3 may not have all implemented fixes.

      • PE-firmware release xx.033.117 or later.

  1. Update firmware.
