What you will see
With the first few pages scanned through the printer’s autodocument feeder (ADF), the scanner jam errors 281.16 and/or 283.13 appear on the printer.
NOTE: These errors occur on printers kept in storage for a long period, and also on out-of-the-box printers.
Explanation
The ADF pick mechanism can become contaminated if it has been stored for a long period of time.
Solution
The paper acts to clean the printer of any contaminant, and this will prevent errors from reoccurring. Successfully feeding ten sheets of plain paper indicates it is fully repaired and operational. Do not use a solvent or cleaner in the printer for these errors; it is best cleaned by the mechanical action of feeding paper. Perform these troubleshooting steps to fix the issue.
Step 1. Stack ten sheets of plain paper on the printer’s ADF tray and perform a scan/copy with a monochrome simplex copy setting.
Step 2. Check whether the first few sheets jam, remove any jammed paper to clear the area. Put a new stack of paper on the ADF tray and then scan again.
Step 3. Repeat the same steps for five times until no jam occurs. It should feed the entire paper stack completely.
Step 4. Should issue persist, please contact Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance.
