Printer Installation Window Hangs when Updating to UPD PS3 Version 2.9.1.0 and Below

What you will see

The printer installation windowhangs for about ten seconds when you install a print object via Point and Print on a Windows Server 2008 R2 from a Windows Server 2012 R2.


NOTE:
This happens when installing a Universal Print Driver (UPD) PostScript (PS3) version 2.9.1.0 and below on a Windows Server 2008 R2 connecting to Windows Server 2012 R2 only. This does not happen on a Windows 7 connecting to Windows Server 2012 R2.

What is Point and Print?

Point and Print is a feature that enables you to connect and print to a remote printer without the need to access any disks or other installation media. Point and Print automatically downloads and installs all printer driver and data files and the configuration information required to use the remote printer from the client computer.

Recommended solution

Update the printer’s UPD PS3 to version 2.9.1.16.
