Open the front door and check if the cartridge button is stuck.
Open the front access door and check if the cartridge plunger (MS/MX3/4/51x, MS/MX71x/81x) is broken or damaged.
For MS/MX3/4/51x, remove the toner cartridge and the imaging unit, and check whether:
The toner is building up on the imaging unit port due to the inner lid not opening. If so, vacuum any loose toner from the imaging unit and inside the printer.
The port ratchet is in the correct or incorrect position. if in the incorrect position, carefully move the right side lever into the front position and proceed to step 4. Otherwise, skip to step 5.
For MS/MX71x/81x, check if an irregular sound emanates from the device, and compare it to the thumping and grinding sound recordings below:
If the sound coming from the printer matches any of the sound recordings, stop here and contact Lexmark Support. Otherwise, proceed to step 4.
Reinstall the supplies and test the printer. If starvation has started to occur, it may take printing several pages to recover the print quality.
Remove and reinstall the cartridge. Push the toner cartridge body forward one last time to make sure that it is completely seated.
Update the printer firmware to the latest version by following the steps in Downloading the latest Lexmark printer firmware.
Should the errors re-occur, replace the toner cartridge.
