Lexmark MS911 & MX91x ? White Lines in Horizontal (Process) Direction

What you will see

Multiple white lines are seen across the printed page. The defect can easily be noticed if the printed object is solid black or gray. See sample printout below.

Possible cause

  • Clumped toner due to high moisture and temperature
  • Laser lens contamination
  • Transfer Belt scratches/creases
  • Toner dust or moisture build-up on the Transfer Belt cleaner blade
  • Moisture build-up on the Transfer Belt cleaner blade, and fuser exit rear-end memory

Suggested remedy

The printer has several built-in self-cleaning methods. These include the corona wire cleaner. It’s important to clean the corona wire after each installation of the maintenance kit, toner cartridge, or waste toner box. The procedure laid out below describes the proper methods for cleaning the corona wire charger.

Cleaning the Corona Charger and the Printhead Lens

1Open the bottom front door.
2Remove the waste toner bottle.
3Locate the white tab.
4Gently pull the tab until it stops, and then slowly slide it back into place. Repeat three times.
5Remove the printhead wiper.
6Insert the wiper into the hole until it stops, and then slide it out. Repeat three times.

Put the wiper back to its holder.

8Reinstall the waste toner bottle.

Close the bottom front door and print a test page to check whether the defect has been corrected.

If defect persists, proceed to the next step.

The final step is to see whether white lines or scratches can be seen on the Photoconductorunit (PCU). Replace the PCU if necessary.
