Affected Products:

Single-Function: CS921, CS923, CS927, MS911

Multifunction: CX920, CX921, CX922, CX923, CX924, CX927, MX910, MX911, MX912, XC9225, XC9235, XC9245, XC9255, XC9265, XM9145, XM9155, XM9165

Issue Description:

When printing, the paper's grain orientation combined with paper curl are casuing a 202.95 error. The exit fuser sensor never turns off due to the presence of paper in the paper path. The paper's structure (paper curl or less beam strength) can cause the leading edge to get caught by the duplex diverter at the front or rear. Eventually, this leads to paper stacked on horizontal transport unit (HTU) getting sucked into the duplex path together with duplex-ready sheet.

Solution:

Option 1: Test for Grain Direction

Feed the paper into the printer in short edge orientation when testing long-grain direction. For short-grain direction test, feed the paper into the printer in the long edge orientation.

Paper has different beam strength depending on which direction it was cut. Beacause the paper fibers tend to line up in one direction, that direction tends to have a higher beam strength, which is the strength that a sheet uses to hold a flat shape when unsupported on one side. Options to test for grain direction is as follows:

  1. Hold a slightly bent sheet of paper both orizontally and vertically. The bend with least resistance is parallel to the grain.

  2. Look at the labeling on the package of paper. In most cases, the second number will indicate which side is running parallel with the grain.

Option 2: Lower the Fuser Temperature

Lowering the fuser temperature can reduce paper curl by changing paper type and paper texture. To do this:

  1. Navigate to: Settings > Paper > Media Configuration > Media Types > Plain Paper > Texture or Weight

  2. Change Paper Texture or Paper Type based on job type and printer's rated speed.

    Job type

    Set Paper Type to...

    Set Paper Texture to...

    Mono

    Plain

    Smooth (from Normal)

    Color (35/45/55 ppm models)

    Plain

    Rough (from Normal)

    Color jobs (65ppm model)

    Letterhead (from Plain)

    Smooth (from Normal)
    Note
: Setting change results in a slow down to half speed.
