How to operate the printer while the scanner is disabled

Overview

In the event your multifunction printer (MFP) encounters a scanner-related error code such as 840 or 843, disabling the scanner will make the unit functional for printing. This document outlines the necessary steps to do this.

Note:  This procedure will be handy only if the MFP has scanner-specific issues not affecting its printing capability. It is also advisable to disable the scanner should you need to flash code due to a scanner error or while waiting for a Service Technician to arrive and fix the device.

How to disable the scanner

StepAction

1

Power off the printer.

2

Press and hold down the 3 and 7 keys simultaneously.

3

Power on the printer.

4

Continue holding the keys until the Lexmark logo appears on the screen.

5

The unit will come to its Ready prompt and will indicate that the scanner is non-functional.

Note:  At this point, the device can now accept print jobs. Also, since the printer is in its Ready state, you should now be able to perform a firmware update, if needed.
