Troubleshooting 31.60 Imaging Unit Smart Chip Error

Overview

The subsequent steps will guide you in troubleshooting a 31.60 “Imaging unit smart chip error”.

Ensure that the imaging unit is installed properly. Reinstall the imaging unit correctly if needed. Otherwise, proceed with the next step.

Remove the imaging unit and install a different unit if you have a spare. The issue is resolved should the error clears. Proceed with the next step if the error remains.

Ensure the cable for socket J45 on the controller board is properly connected. Reseat the connection and see if the error clears. Replace the cable should the error remain.

Make certain the imaging unit smart chip contact with cable is free from damage. Replace the imaging unit smart chip contact with cable if it is damaged.

Restart the printer and see whether the error clears. Replace the Controller Board if error remains.

Should issue persist even after going through the preceding steps, please consult Lexmark 3rd Level Support before setting up additional service for the printer.
