Card authentication card reader does not respond when printer is in sleep mode

What you will see

The card reader does not detect your badge when you swipe it while the printer is in sleep mode. This happens even when you try to wake the printer by pressing the home button or tapping the screen.


NOTE:
‘Sleep Mode’ is the printer's energy-saving state. It saves energy by lowering the printer’s power consumption during extended periods of inactivity.

Affected products

This issue applies to the following Lexmark models with Card Authentication app installed.

  • C792
  • X792
  • MX6500e

Recommended action

Is your card reader connected to the FRONT USB port?

If…Then…
YesMake sure to reconnect the card reader to the BACK USB port.
NoDisconnect and reconnect the card reader cable to ensure its secure connection.

Explanation

By design, the FRONT USB port is powered down while the printer is in sleep mode. Therefore, the reader does not have power in this state.
