Repeating marks or voids check

Issue description

Repeating marks, voids, or other print defects appear at consistent intervals. This can be caused by a variety of symptoms ranging from supplies (toner cartridges, etc.) to a physical problem with the printer. This article will help you confirm the problem. Please refer to the following directions to determine which hardware part is causing the issue.

Sample: Repeating marks or print defects

Solution

  1. For a print quality defect of this type, it is always advisable to print the Print Defects Guide. This guide allows you to determine the cause of the repeating defect based on the distance between the original and the residual image(s).

    • This guide can be found from the printer's control panel by accessing Menus (Wrench) > Help > Print Defects Guide.
    • Lexmark CS/CX310 models: This model does not contain this guide. Download the Print Defects Guide and print it.

Note:  The User's Guide provides detailed instructions for navigating through the printer menus.

  2. Using the Print Defects Guide, match the frequency (distance) between the defects seen on your print sample with those referenced in the Print Defects Guide. This will help determine the cause of the issue.

Note:  The first and second page of the Print Defects Guide contains a set of rulers you can use to indicate which particular part is causing the issue.

  3. Replace the part that is matched to the defect frequency (some parts may require service).

If issue persists after performing the steps mentioned above, an issue may exist within the machine's hardware. Please contact Lexmark Technical Supportvfor other troubleshooting suggestions.
