This article will help you confirm the problem. Please refer to the directions in the table below to help determine which hardware part is causing the issue.

For a print quality defect of this type, it is always advisable to print the following:

  • Menu Settings Page – To check the levels of the consumable supplies (i.e., items such as toner cartridges and imaging kit); supplies that are at or near the end of their functional lives can cause various print quality issues independently of the operation of the printer.

2Using the Menu Settings page, check the levels of the consumable supplies. Under Cartridge Information, first check whether the black consumable supply is low. If so, replace it to see whether this resolves the issue. Many print quality issues are caused simply by a supply item that is at or near the end of its expected functional yield. Resend the print job to the printer. Did the issue return?

Yes: Continue to Step 3.No: If the page prints, the printer is functioning correctly.

3If all of the consumable supply levels are adequate, try using another consumable supply to ensure that the issue is not simply caused by a defective supply.
4If issue persists after performing the steps mentioned above, an issue may exist within the machine's hardware. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for other troubleshooting suggestions.
