Non-repeating marks on the front side of page printed

Issue description

A non-repeating mark, spots, or other print defects can be caused by a variety of symptoms ranging from supplies (Photoconductor Unit, Developer Unit, etc) to a physical problem with the printer. See sample page below.

This article will help you confirm the problem. Please refer to the directions in the table below to help determine which hardware part is causing the issue.

Solution

  1. Check to see whether the printer supports the paper being used and that it meets all recommendations listed in the User’s Guide.

  2. Make sure the Paper Type Setting on the printer and in the driver/software matches the type of paper loaded in the tray.

  3. Check to see whether it repeats the marks or spots on every third page.

    Note:  If print quality issue described above repeats every third page, please Repeating marks or voids every third page printed for troubleshooting advice on this print quality issue.

  4. Check whether toner is dumping inside the printer; excessive toner dumping may require a service call.

    Note:  If a significant build-up of loose toner exists inside the printer, it may be necessary to clean it out (preferably with a toner vacuum). Please contact Lexmark Technical Support or a local authorized service provider to arrange a service call.

Service action

Before replacing any parts, the technician should do the following:

  • Incorrect Paper Type Setting – Make sure the Paper Type Setting on the printer and in the driver/software matches the type of paper loaded in the tray.
  • Check whether the print quality issue repeats every third page. If so, please Repeating marks or voids every third page printed for additional troubleshooting suggestions.
  • Check whether toner is dumping inside the printer. If so, send a technician with a vacuum cleaner.
