Overview

A 909 Error indicates that the MFP/printer has detected a problem with the electrical power being supplied to it and has shut down to prevent damage.

Possible cause

Power surges or dirty power near 0 volts (the point at which the MFP/printer turns the fuser on) is the most likely cause of this issue.

Troubleshooting

StepActionYesNo
1 Check to see if you had any electrical problems recently. For example:
  • Electrical work or repairs
  • Electrical damage such as a lightning strike or building damage
  • Problems with other electrical equipment, such as computers

Have you had any electrical problems recently?

You need to contact your power company and have the company check the power source.See Step 2.

2

Power the printer off, wait 30 seconds, and power it back on.

Did this resolve the issue?

Print a test page. If there's no error and the page prints, the issue is resolved. See Step 3.
3

Connect the MFP/printer to a different power outlet. (This can be done temporarily with a heavy duty extension cord.) Try to find an outlet that:

  • Is connected to a different power circuit.
  • Has previously had an X85x or W840 installed that functioned properly.
  • Is in a permanent wall (avoid outlets in temporary cubicle furniture).

Did the error remain?

Contact Lexmark Technical Support. You need to contact your power company and have the company check the power source.
