Lexmark C950/X95X ? Loud Grinding Noise from Lower Part of the Printer

Overview

You hear a loud grinding noise on the printer's lower-right side (i.e., lower-right as you stand facing the printer).

Possible cause

The most likely cause: removing and reinserting the waste bottle causes toner to pile up at the inlet location. The toner then begins to cake and harden, which can cause the waste bottle auger to break, thus producing the grinding noise.

Recommended diagnosis

To determine whether a broken auger is causing the noise:

1Open the printer’s front door.
2Pull out the waste toner bottle.
3Locate a white gear on the rear of the waste toner bottle. Use the white gear to try turning the auger by hand.

If the auger is very difficult to turn, then the most likely culprit is the waste toner bottle. Replace the waste toner bottle using the part number: C950X76G

Note:
The waste toner bottle is considered as a printer supply and is customer replaceable.
