Suggested Fix

Use port 5001 in the creation of your device description. Current (existing) IPDS queue users Legacy and older printers required the entry of Port 9100 used in a PSFCFG (Printer Setup Configuration File). If you are using an existing IPDS queue, please remove the PSFSFG reference and follow the proceeding steps below to resolve this issue.

1You must log on as system operator or security officer (QSYSOPR or QSECOFR) or have print operator authority.
2Type CRTDEVPRT (create device printer) from a command line.
3Give the printer a device name of your choice.
4Specify the DEVICE CLASS as *LAN, as the printer is connected through the network.
5Set Lan Attachment (LANATTACH) to *IP.
6Set the TYPE to *IPDS and MODEL to 0.
7Set AFP to *YES.
8Set the port number (PORT) to 5001 for an internal network adapter.
9Specify the default font you want for this device (FONT 011 in the example).
10Set FORMFEED to *AUTOCUT.
11Set the Activation timer (ACTTMR) to 170.
12For the remote location name or address (RMTLOCNAME) field, enter the network adapterIP address or host name.

13Make sure that the IPDS Timeout under the IPDS > Emulation Menu is set to 15 seconds.

Explanation

The observed behavior appears to be caused by the use of port 9100 in the creation of the device description.
