Lexmark T65x and X65x: The Printer Displays a 'Service Fuser' Error

Affected Products:

Single-Function: T650, T652, T654, T656

Multifunction: X651, X652, X654, X656, X658

Issue Description:

The printer stops printing and displays a Service Fuser error.

In most cases, a 920925 type numeric error also accompanies the message. An example would be a 920.01 Service Fuser message.

Solution:

Clearing the error

  1. If this is the first time you have seen the error, power off the printer.

  2. Leave the printer powered off for ten seconds or more to give it a chance to reset.

  3. Power on the printer again.

  4. If the printer goes to the 'Ready' state, try printing again.

  5. If the fuser error does not return, continue using the printer as normal.

Pay close attention to the printer over the next few days to see if the fuser error returns.

If the fuser error returns when the printer is powered up or when you try to print again, continue with the suggestion below.

Check the power source

  1. Confirm that the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not through a surge device or power strip.

  2. If the printer is not directly plugged into a wall outlet, power the printer off and plug it directly into the wall.

  3. Check also the Power Label on back of the printer to see whether it works on a 110 or 220 volt source.

  4. Verify that the power outlet matches its working voltage rating.

  5. Perform this test even if the printer has been working correctly in the past with this surge device.

  6. Power strips and uninterrupted power supplies can cause a low amperage problem, which can trigger a false fuser error. This is especially important if the fuser error messages occur intermittently.

  7. If possible, try plugging the printer into a different wall outlet before seeking service and see if the fuser error continues. This will eliminate the power source as a possible cause for the issue.

  8. In addition to the power source, confirm the printer is located in an area where the temperature is above 16°C (60°F). Also, confirm that the printer is not exposed to any cold breezes, such as being positioned next to an exit door or a window on cold days or in the direct air flow path of a vent when the air conditioning is operating.
