You find one or more small, gray, plastic tabs that appear to have broken off the paper tray. Click here for images. In addition, the printer may display an Insert Tray error message.
Possible Cause
Recent discovery indicates the size sensing fingers may pop off from the Lexmark T65x and X65x Series Printers when the tray is slammed in violently.

NOTE: The image illustrated below shows the Lexmark X65x models. However, these also apply to the Lexmark T65x models.
- Ribs on paper tray becomes damaged after several impacts, (see red arrow in image above).
- Tray size sensing finger catches on printer, and the finger comes off the tray; (see blue arrow in image above).
Recommended actions
| Step | Action |
| 1 | Remove the paper tray and look on the outside of it along the left-hand side. |
| 2 | Look for three tabs on the tray. See the image below for an example of how the tabs should appear when properly installed on the tray. |
| 3 | If one or more of the tabs are missing, see if you can locate them. If you do, try to reinstall them on the paper tray. If you cannot locate the tabs, or if you find them and they will not go back onto the tray properly, the paper tray will need to be replaced. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional information or to set up warranty service. IMPORTANT! Confirm that the printer is sitting on a flat, level surface. If the printer is installed on an uneven surface, the tabs on the tray may catch on the printer's frame and break off. |
