Effects of Enabling Quiet Mode on a Lexmark Printer/MFP

Overview

Quiet Mode is one of the features implemented on some of the new Lexmark Printers and MFP (Multifunction printer) series. Its function is to significantly reduce acoustics produced when the machine performs a printing job. This document describes what to look for from the printer when this feature is used or not used.

How to Access Quiet Mode

In general, to access Quiet Mode on printers that have this feature, you need to:

1. Press the Menu button. 2. Go to General Settings. 3. Look for Quiet Mode and select On/Off.

What to Expect when Quiet Mode is On/Off

If...Then...

Quiet Mode is ON

The Printer/MFP will be configured to run in a reduced noise mode.

Primarily, you are

trading performance for quieter operation

. The following parameters are affected:

• Reduce printer noise. • Print jobs will process at one-half the normal speed. • Printer engine motors do not start until a job is ready to print. There will be a short delay before the first page is printed. • Fans run at reduced speed or are turned off. • If your printer has faxing capability, fax sounds are reduced or disabled, including those made by the fax speaker and ringer. The fax is placed in standby mode. • The alarm control and cartridge alarm sounds are turned off. • The printer will ignore the Advance Start command.

Quiet Mode is OFF

The parameters changed as described when Quiet mode is On are returned to their factory default state. This mode will support performance claims for the product.
