Random marks or spots

Issue description

Light or dark marks of any size are visible on printed pages. These marks DO NOT repeat in a pattern from top to bottom of the page in portrait orientation. If the marks do repeat in a pattern to diagnose repeating marks or spots.

Recommended troubleshooting

  1. Try printing on recommended media that is dry and fresh out of a ream.

  2. Check the cartridge toner level. Replace the cartridge if the toner is low.

  3. Dark marks often clear without intervention. Try printing more pages to see if the marks disappear.

  4. Look for contamination on visible parts of the cartridge and printer. Fibers or paper fragments touching the PC Drum wipe toner from the image.

  5. Look for damage to visible parts of the cartridge and printer. Damaged cartridges may leak toner onto paper and into the printer.

  6. Try printing with a different cartridge. Replace the cartridge if necessary.

  7. If you are printing with a Label Application cartridge, confirm the fuser wiper is clean and installed correctly.

  8. Check the metal cartridge electrical contacts. Click here to see contact locations. Should any contacts be bent, dirty, or contaminated, please contact Lexmark Technical Support to set up service for this printer.
