Lexmark T650

A '202.12' paper jam error is displayed when printing on both sides

What you will see

When printing on both the front and back sides of the page, one of the following issues occur.

  1. Paper jams in the internal duplex assembly of the printer and a 202.12 Paper Jam message is displayed on the screen.

  2. The paper feeds through correctly. However, there are one or more creases in the paper.

In each case above, the issue occurs only when printing on both the front and back sides of the page (duplex printing). Single-sided pages print fine.

Check the position of two small cork pads

There are two small cork pads attached to a metal plate in the duplex assembly of the printer. If one of these pads slip, it can obstruct the paper path and cause the issues listed above. To check the pads, follow the steps in the table below.

NOTE: T650 model printers do not have an internal duplex assembly, as shown in the table below. For T650 models to have duplex capability, a duplex option must be installed. 'Check Duplex' or '23x' paper jam error for directions on how to locate and clear the paper jam on a T650 model.

5

Once you have located each pad, confirm that it is in the proper location. If either pad has slid down, remove the pad and try to reposition it back into its original location.

NOTE: If you have had to reposition the pad before and it continues to slip, try removing the pad entirely and continue with the steps below.

Click on the links below to view larger, close-up images of the pads in their proper location.

6

Once you have returned the pad to its the correct position, check the remaining areas of the printer for any other sheets of paper that may still be jammed inside.

7

Once you have confirmed that the entire paper path inside the printer is clear, close all covers and reinstall the paper tray.

8

Try printing again. If the problem continues, check the pads again. If the pad has slipped again, remove it. Confirm the paper path is clear and try printing again.

If the problem continues and the pads are in the correct location or if you have removed the problematic pad, check the following:

  • Are you printing on regular plain bond copy paper? If not, try printing again with plain copy paper. This will eliminate specialty media as part of the cause of the jamming. Certain specialty paper, label stock, and card stock, are more difficult for the printer to feed and therefore more prone to jamming. NOTE:For more information on this, please refer to the printer's User's Guide.
  • If you are printing on both sides of the paper (front and back), try printing single-sided pages. If single-sided pages print properly, check the duplex area of the printer again for any small pieces of paper or other obstructions.
  • If the problem continues after trying all the suggestions above, the printer may require a service action to correct the issue. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional information (see below for details).
