900 Firmware error after installing the Lexmark 6500e scanner communications card

Issue description

After installing the Lexmark 6500e Scanner Communications Card on a Lexmark T65x printer, a 900 Firmware Error appears on the printer control panel.

Possible cause of the error

The firmware code level on the Lexmark T65x printer is too old; it cannot support the code loaded on the Scanner Communications Card.

Solution

Before installing the Lexmark 6500e Scanner Communications Card on a Lexmark T65x printer, the printer firmware must be at least at .P128 level. Follow the steps below to verify and update the printer firmware level.

  1. Determine the firmware code level of the printer using any of the methods below.

    Printing the Menu Settings Page

    • Press the Menu button.
    • Press Reports.
    • Press Menu Settings Page to start printing.
    • Under Device Information, look for the information next to Base. Click here to see sample.

    Using the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

    Note:  This method requires the printer to be connected to the network via Ethernet cable.

    • Launch Internet Explorer (or any other Internet browser).
    • Enter the printer's IP address into your browser's address field.
    • Click on Reports.
    • Launch Internet Explorer (or any other Internet browser).
    • Click Device Information and look for the information next to Base. Click here to see a sample screen shot.
  2. Verify whether the firmware code level is at least .P128.

    • If the code level is below P128,proceed with the next step to do the update.
    • If the code level is P128 and above, contact Lexmark Technical Support for other troubleshooting suggestions.
  3. Download the latest firmware code.

    Note:  The downloaded ZIP file should contain a text document (Update Instructions) and an “.fls” file (actual code).

  4. Update the code using any of the following methods.
