When Printing Large Print Jobs (Five Pages or More), the Printer Prints Slower Than Normal Speed: Lexmark T65x and X65x Series Printers

ENUS33294What you will see

When printing jobs that consist of five pages or more, you notice that the printer does not print at its rated speed, or that it slows down after one minute of printing.

Recommended actions
  • Confirm that the printer is not in Eco mode or Quiet mode. Each of these modes decreases the overall speed of the printer, either to save power (E co mode) or to decrease the noise level (Quiet mode). If the printer is in Eco or Quiet mode, take the printer out of that mode and see if this corrects the issue.
  • If you are printing on paper/media that is less than 7.7 inches (196 mm) wide, note that after ten pages have printed, the printer will engage a printing mode called Narrow Media. This will slow the printer down to half speed. This is a safety feature designed to ensure proper heat dissipation and to reduce overheating of the parts inside the printer. Paper sizes that fall within this range include: A5, B5, Executive, Statement, and Envelopes. There is no supported way to bypass this safeguard. If speed is a concern, however, try printing on wider media such as letter-size paper.
  • If the printer intermittently pauses between pages, the print data has filled up the printer memory, or the print job is being sent across a busy network. Therefore the printer needs to pause in order to clear the memory or wait for more data from the computer. This situation usually arises with large print jobs, or jobs that contain heavy data, such as pictures, charts, or other images. Reducing the size or the complexity of the print job should help with this issue.
