Installing WSD using the printer driver in Windows 10

Issue description

This video is provided for demonstration purposes only. It is intended to familiarize users with the installation of a driver as a Web Services Device (WSD) via the Add Printer Wizard.

Note:  Windows 10 drivers may not be immediately available. In the meantime, you may use Windows 8 or 8.1 driver packages for Windows 10 supported printers.

Solution

The following steps are summarized from the video linked in the Issue Description above.

  1. Extract files to a temporary folder.

  2. Accept the License Agreement.

  3. Remove the check mark next to "Launch the Add Printer Wizard after extraction completes".

  4. Extract to C:\Lexmark\Lexmark_Universal_v2_UD1_PCL. Take note of this extraction path.

  5. Open File Explorer > This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Lexmark > Lexmark_Universal_v2_UD1_PCL > Drivers > Print > GDI, and copy the full directory path (press Ctrl+C).

  6. Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > View devices and printers.

  7. Click Print server properties > Drivers tab > Change Driver Settings > Add.

  8. Click Next in Add Printer Driver Wizard.

  9. Select x86 for 32-bit, and x64 for 64-bit OSes/drivers.

  10. Click Have Disk....

  11. Press Ctrl + V in the dialog box for Copy manufacturer's files from: to paste the directory C:\Lexmark\Lexmark_Universal_v2_UD1_PCL\Drivers\Print\GDI.

  12. Highlight the printer, click Next, and then click Finish.

    Note:  A new printer driver entry will appear under Print server properties.

  13. Select Add a printer.

  14. Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.

  15. Select Device type: Web Services Device.

  16. Enter the printer's Hostname or IP Address.

  17. Click Next, or change the Printer name before clicking Next.

  18. Click Finish.

    Note:  A new printer will appear under Devices and Printers.
