Paper loading and usage recommendations

Before arranging any warranty service or other service action on the printer, check the following usage recommendations. Any of these issues can cause the ADF unit to feed multiple pages at a time or jam paper.

  • Check the entire paper path to make sure it is free of any debris such as staples, paper clips, and even paper dust.
  • Flex, fan, and straighten the paper before loading it into the ADF tray.
  • Confirm that the paper stack lies flat in the ADF tray.
  • Do not load too much paper. Make sure the stack height stays below the maximum height level indicated on the ADF tray.
  • Make sure the side guides in the ADF tray are properly positioned and are not pressing too tightly against the paper.
  • Do not load the ADF tray while the machine is printing/scanning. Load the sheets prior to printing.
  • Use only recommended paper. See the printer's User's Guide for information on recommended and supported paper types.
  • Do not load wrinkled, creased, damp, bent, or curled paper.
  • Avoid using paper that has been cut or trimmed by hand.
  • If you are loading a stack of paper that was previously stapled together, turn the pages around so the bottom edge is now the leading edge.
  • Do not mix paper sizes, weights, or types in the same stack.
  • Make sure all paper size and paper type settings are set correctly in the printer control panel menus.
