Unable to Send a Fax to a Legacy Fax Machine; Disabled 'Auto Convert Color Faxes to Mono Faxes' Will Prevent Successful Fax Transmittal

What you will see

A fax-send failure and an E-A00 error on the Fax Transmission Log or the Fax Send Log.

E-A00 explanation - Sending fax machine received request for unsupported function from remote fax device.

Additional Identifier for Advanced Users

Access the http://mfp_IP_address/SE, where

MFP_IP_address

is the address of the device, and view the T30 log. Look for the presence of a DCN shortly after a DIS.

DCN - Disconnect

DIS - Digital identifier sent by the recipient fax machine to inform the sending device of its capabilities.

Suggested Fix

Re-enable theFax Auto Convert Color Faxes to Mono Faxes setting.

To do this:

  1. Access the MFP embedded web server or configuration page; e.g., http://

    MFP_IP_address

    , where

    MFP_IP_address

    is the address of the device.

  2. Click on Settings.

  3. Click on Fax Settings.

  4. Click on Analog Fax Setup.

  5. Under Fax Send Settings, place a check mark next to Auto Convert Color Faxes to Mono Faxes.

  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Submit.

  7. Attempt to resend the fax.

Explanation

A recipient fax machine that does not support color faxes, and a disabled MFP setting which overrides this disability, prevent a successful fax transmittal.
