Loud Abnormal Noise from the Left Side of the Multipurpose Feeder

What you will hear

The printer may produce mechanical sounds during normal operation that may seem abnormal or excessively loud to some customers. The excessively loud noise occurs when printing from any tray (multi-purpose feeder (MPF), Trays 1 – 4). The loud abnormal noise will emanate from the left side of the printer.

Suggested Actions

For Multipurpose Feeder noise issue, try the following:

1Lower the multipurpose feeder door.
2Squeeze and slide the width guide to the far right.

Load the multipurpose feeder tray with the specified paper type and size (e.g., plain paper) until it comes to a stop.


Note:
From the home screen, set the Paper Size and Paper Type. To access the paper menus, touch Menu > Paper Menu > Paper Size/Type.

4Adjust the width guide to the desired size (e.g., letter size) and ensure that the width guide lightly touches the edge of the paper stack.
5From the printer/MFP home screen, touch Menu. Go to Configure MP and set it to First.No Image
6Send a print job to the printer/MFP. Ensure the print job is requesting the correct size of paper.No Image
7Observe the MPF lift plate if it moves up and down when printing. Also listen for any abnormal noise when printing from the multipurpose feeder.
