Step | Action |
1 | Should this be the first time the issue has occurred and the device is currently displaying a 31.41 error, open the door to make sure the cartridge is installed in the machine. If the cartridge is present, re-install it and close the door. Note: Should you have already tried this, proceed to the next step.
|
2 | Check whether the 31.41 error appears only when a new toner cartridge is installed in the printer. - If it happens when installing a new cartridge, re-install the old cartridge back into the printer and see whether the printer reports the 31.41 error. Should the 31.41 error occur on both cartridges, proceed to Step 4.
- If the 31.41 error only occurs on the new cartridge, proceed to Step 3.
|
3 | If the error message continues, please carry out the following checks on the toner cartridge: - Confirm that you are using an original Lexmark brand toner cartridge. If a third-party cartridge is causing this issue, please contact the point of purchase to have the cartridge replaced.
- Confirm that the toner cartridge has not been refilled or reworked in any way. Refilling the toner cartridge can cause damage to the cartridge. If the cartridge has been refilled or reworked, contact the place where the cartridge was refilled to have it replaced.
- If this is an original Lexmark toner cartridge and it is relatively new or unused, it may be eligible for replacement. Contact the point of purchase first as they may have a replacement policy. Had the cartridge been purchased directly from Lexmark, contact Lexmark using the phone number or address you used to order the cartridge.

4 | If the issue occurs on more than one toner cartridge on the same printer, contact Lexmark Technical Support or a local authorized service provider for additional assistance. |
