Lexmark C74X and X74x MFPs ? Slow PDF Printing with Printer Set to Duplex Mode on a Custom-Sized Paper

Overview

Certain settings and jobs will cause the printer to slow down as compared to its normal printing operational speed. In this scenario, slow printing is experienced when printing a PDF file. This happens when the printer is set to print in duplex mode and paper size is 8.47 X 11.74 inches.

Functioning as designed

This concern occurs with a complex PDF file. When printing the file, you will notice that while the job is being rendered, the print dialog shows the job is being “flattened”. This indicates that the job contains layers, transparencies, etc.

NOTE:
It is recommended to examine whether the PDF document contains multiple images by trying the suggestions below. By design, each image is rendered individually during the printing process, thus causing longer print times; hence, the flattening operation by the reader.

Suggested remedy

Try any of the following options:

Option 1: Enable Print As Image

StepAction
1 Choose File > Print.
2 Click on Advanced.
3

Place a check on Print as Image.

Note:
The location of the Print As Image option may vary and depends on your Reader or Acrobat version.

4 Click OK to apply changes.

NOTE:
This bypasses the processing by sending the printer a simple image of the document instead.

Option 2: Visit this Adobe website for other basic PDF printing recommendations.
