Security options against FragAttack

Issue description

Several vulnerabilities, collectively referred to as "FragAttack", were discovered in the IEEE802.11 (wireless networking) standards that have been confirmed within implementations of multiple wireless network devices. These vulnerabilities allow attackers to insert malicious packets and inspect the contents of packets over wireless communications.

Printers with the wireless feature enabled may be vulnerable to FragAttack vulnerabilities. However, FragAttack vulnerabilities are difficult to exploit unless the attack occurs on the same network as the impacted device and have been evaluated as low to medium risk.

Solution

The MarkNet N8250, MarkNet N8350, MarkNet N8352, MarkNet N8360, MarkNet N8362, MarkNet N8370, MarkNet N8372, and internal wireless print servers are vulnerable to FragAttack. The recommended steps for securing your device are outlined below.

For devices using the MarkNet N8360, MarkNet N8362, MarkNet N8370, MarkNet N8372, and internal wireless print servers:

  1. Update printer firmware to 081.014 or newer. Contact Lexmark Support for assistance.

For devices using the MarkNet N8250, MarkNet N8350 and MarkNet N8352 wireless print servers:

Wireless print servers used in older printer models are no longer supported and cannot be upgraded. Hence, it is instead recommended to:

  1. Disable the wireless feature on impacted printer models.

  2. Replace impacted printer models with a newer model and update firmware to latest versions available.
