What you will see
When using the scanner’s Auto-size sense feature, the size of the original document being fed in the ADF does not match the size of the scanned output.
Possible cause
The metal contacts attached with the fingers of the ADF tray guides do not link properly. This causes the printer to not recognize the correct size of the document being fed in the ADF. Thus, the output would be an enlarged or reduced version of the original document.
NOTE: This issue can be seen on all scanner workflow where the ADF is being used (i.e., Scan to copy, scan to email, and fax).
Recommended diagnosis
In most cases, the mismatch is caused only by improper settings or incorrect media loaded in the paper trays. IMPORTANT! Before calling Lexmark Technical Support for assistance, check the following:
- The ADF tray guides are set properly according to the size of the original document.
- The correct size of paper is loaded in any of the paper trays.
- The “Copy from” and “Copy to” settings are set to “Auto Size”. Click here to see the illustration.
With the above conditions met, scan a sample document and see if the printer will prompt an error as shown below.

Should the printer post this error even if it is loaded with the paper size that matches the original document, yet the output does not match the original size, contact Lexmark Technical Support to set up service for the printer.
