956.01 system board error

Overview

This article discusses the fix for a 956.01 Processor or System Board Error.

Troubleshooting

1. Power off the printer and allow the printer to sit powered off for 10 to 20 seconds before turning it back on. If the display panel powers on correctly, but the printer still exhibits the same behavior after some time has passed, proceed with the next step.



2. Identify the current Code Level of the printer. Do this using any of the two methods below; then proceed to Step 2:

   Method 1: Print the Menu Settings Page

   A	Touch the Menu button on the Printer’s Operator Panel.
   B	Touch Reports.
   C	Touch Menu Settings Page to start printing.
   D	Look for the code level under “Device Information”. Click here to see sample.

   Method 2: Use the Printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)

   A	Launch Internet Explorer (or any Internet browser).
   B	Enter the printer's IP address into your browser's address field.
   C	Click on Reports.

3. If...	Then...
   Your printer’s code level is any of the following: For C792: LHS1.HC.P129 – or –LHS1.HC.P130 For X792: LHS1.MR.P131 – or – LHS1.MR.P135 – or – LHS1.MR.P135a For X925: LHS1.HK.P136a	Proceed with the next step to download and install the latest firmware.
   Your printer’s code level is any of the following: For C792: LHS1.HC.P131 – or – The latest For X792: LHS1.MR.P135b – or – The latest For X925: LHS1.HK.P136b – or – The latest	Contact Lexmark Technical Support and seek service for the printer.



4. Download the latest code from Lexmark Support website. Save the file and extract it on the same directory.

   Use the appropriate Authorization Keycode below.

   • For Lexmark C792 – c792

   • For Lexmark X792 – x792

   • For Lexmark X925 – x925



5. Update the code using any of the methods below:

   Firmware Flash Methods	Information
   Embedded Web Server (EWS) Recommended	Open a browser and enter the IP address of the printer. Select Settings >Update Firmware.

   USB thumb drive	Updating printer or MFP firmware using a USB thumb or flash drive for the detailed steps.
   FTP	Updating the printer firmware via FTP for the detailed steps.
