Auto‑configuration and ask printer settings will not work over USB connection

Issue description

Auto-configuration or Ask printer is not fetching installable options from the printer over USB (Universal Serial Bus) connectivity. Also, the printer model name is displayed as “Universal Color Laser” for UPD & Color Generational driver and “Universal Mono Laser” for Mono Generational drivers.

This problem is only detected for printers that have the latest generation of Firmware, operating on Windows 11.

Note: Installation (also Plug and Play installation) and printing are successful over USB port.


You can either use any of the following steps below to resolve the issue:

  • Disabling the IPP over USB setting in the printer.
  • Manually select the required installable options from the printer properties windows (i.e., Configuration Tab).
