Poor Fuse Grade or Toner Not Sticking when Cotton or Rough Heavy Paper Is Used on a Lexmark C925/X925 Printer MFP

Overview

There are four possible causes why the toner does not stick to the paper/media when printing:

• The wrong type of paper/print media is being used. • The Paper Type setting is wrong for the type of paper/media being used. • One or more of the toner cartridges being used are not supported or are not working correctly. • The Fuser unit (heating element) in the printer is worn or defective.

Troubleshooting

StepAction

1

Verify that the printer supports the weight of the paper you are using.

to see the Media Weights supported by the printer or see the printer’s User’s Guide.

• If you are printing on plain white copy paper, skip ahead to Step 2 below.

• If you are printing on anything other than plain copy paper, check the Paper Type Setting and change it to a more appropriate setting for the paper being used. Examples would include Bond, Letterhead, and Card Stock. See the printer's User's Guide for instructions.

2

If the print/toner continues to rub off the page, try changing the Paper Weight Setting for the paper type you are using from Normal to Heavy. See the printer's User's Guide for instructions.

3

If the resulting printout did not improve, check the installed toner cartridges. Make sure they are original Lexmark toner cartridges that have not been refilled or reworked in any way.

Refilled toner cartridges, refurbished cartridges, and cartridges manufactured by a third party may contain toner that is not compatible with the printer. If a refilled, refurbished, or third-party toner cartridge is installed, exchange it with a brand new, original Lexmark cartridge. See if the printout will improve.

4

If the print/toner continues to rub off the page, contact Lexmark Technical Support for other troubleshooting suggestions.
