Printer automatically shuts down

What you will see

The printer shuts down automatically as the power switch physically moves to Off position. Before this behavior, the printer may have posted an over-temperature error code such as Error 121.

Explanation

This is a safety feature Lexmark designed for the printer to prevent fire or damage that might result from an overheating fuser. Should it overheat, the printer will automatically shut down. When it does so, the Power switch will physically move to the Off position.

Recommended Solution

Step

Action

1

Let the printer stay in the Off state for a couple of minutes to let its internal components cool off.

2

Power on the printer again to see whether it will completely boot up and stay on.

  • If the printer stays on, continue using it but observe its operation for about a week. Should no sign occur of the error coming back, it probably was a temporary glitch and restarting the machine was able to clear it.
  • If the same behavior occurs as soon as you power on the printer again, contact Lexmark Technical Support to set up service for the printer.

Get in Touch with Lexmark! For contact information. NOTE: When calling for support, you will be asked for your machine/model type and serial number (SN).

Please call from near the printer in case the technician on the phone asks you to perform a task involving the printer.
