Image misalignment or color shifting

Issue description

Color alignment defects may appear as excess white lines or white spaces around colored areas.

Note:  Sometimes the image may show as being shifted. See the examples below:

Solution

Note:  Make sure that the Color Correction is set to Auto.

To correct the issue, power off the printer and wait for ten seconds before powering it back on. Do this procedure 3 – 5 times to allow the printer to perform the Auto Color Correction and Alignment process.

By default, the Color Correction and Alignment is set to Auto. If the printer does not perform the process during power up, it could have been set to “manual”. To change this setting, navigate through:

  1. Menus > Settings > Print Settings > Quality Menu.

  2. Look for the option “Color Correction” and use the scroll left and scroll right buttons to change the setting to “Auto”.

  3. Press the Submit button to apply the changes.

If the issue persists, search for more information related to this issue or contact support for further assistance.

1

Verify that Automatic Alignment Adjust Calibration* is enabled.

  1. From the Configuration Menu (2 + 6, POR), navigate to Auto Align Adj – Automatic Alignment Adjust Calibration.

  2. Tap the scroll left and scroll right to change the setting if it is not already set to enabled.

  3. Tap Submit to save the setting, or touch Back to return to the Configuration Menu without saving any changes.

  4. Power cycle the printer.

See next Step 2.

2

If there is another printer of the same model available, try removing its PC units and installing them into the printer that is not performing.

Why? It forces a calibration since the printer now detects that a new or different PC unit has been installed into the printer for the first time.

See next Step 3.

3

Check ATC values under the Diagnostics Menu (3 + 6, POR) > Engine Adjust > ATC Sensor Adjust & Setup. Reference the Service Manual.

See next Step 4.

4

Reseat the transfer belt, developer units, and printhead assembly.

See Service actions below.

Note:  * This setting is for performing Toner Patch Sensing (TPS), a diagnostic mechanism that automatically adjusts the printer’s toner density. When TPS executes, the printer generates toner patches on the belt and then uses these to calculate, if necessary, the appropriate amount of adjustment. When an event initiates a TPS operation, the device performs a toner density calibration.
