If you want to replace the existing printer object with the newly downloaded and extracted printer driver then proceed below with adding the printer through the existing printer object and stop the Windows discovery of printers and Cancel out of the wizard and then proceed below. Again, if you have not yet downloaded and extracted a printer driver, you will need to do so now. You can find different driver packages for your printer via Lexmark.com.
Open Devices and Printers by navigating to your desktop to open the Control Panel and then Devices and Printers.
Right- click on the Printer Object you wish to replace with a different driver, and select Printer properties.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Click on New Driver.
Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard appears. Click Next. You will see (Retrieving a list of all devices).
Note: The next step is optional if driver is already available.
Now, if you think you have installed this driver once before, you can attempt to locate it by selecting Lexmark under Manufacturer and scrolling down the list of Printers in the right column. If so, you can select it here, and then select Next. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
Click Have Disk.
Under Copy manufacturer's files from: Click the down-arrow to next to the dialog box.
- If you see the proper path for the driver listed; e.g., C:\LEXMARK\DRIVERS\SYSXL64WIN\DRIVERS\PRINT\... then select it, click OK, and continue to Step 11.
- If you do not see the proper path listed, you will have to manually locate the extracted driver .inf file then proceed to next step.
Click Browse, and locate the driver .inf file. This file is located under C:\ LEXMARK by default. Click here for an example.
Once the .inf file shows next to File Name, click Open, and then OK from the Install From Disk window.
You will now return to the Add Printer Driver Wizard. Select the printer you wish to install if more than one is listed, and then click Next.
Click Finish to complete the installation.
A new printer object will replace the existing the printer object.
