Installing a Photoconductor unit

Overview

This article outlines the proper handling and replacement procedure of the Photoconductor Unit (PCU) for a Lexmark X95x MFP.

Solution

  1. Open the front door as seen here.

  2. Rotate the release lever counter-clockwise to open the cover. Click here for an illustration.

  3. Lower the cover as seen here.

    Warning—Potential Damage:  Potential Damage —To avoid overexposing the photoconductor unit, do not leave the door open for more than ten minutes.

  4. Grasp the handle of the photoconductor unit and pull it out of the machine. Click here for an illustration.

    Note:  Pull out the photoconductor unit without touching the blue, shiny drum.

  5. Unpack the replacement photoconductor unit.

    Warning—Potential Damage:  In order to avoid contamination of the photoconductor unit, do not touch the blue, shiny surface of the drum.

  6. Align and insert the end of photoconductor unit. Click here for an illustration.

  7. Remove the tape from the top of the photoconductor unit as seen here.

    Warning—Potential Damage:  Do not use a sharp object to remove the tape because it may damage the photoconductor unit.

  8. Push the tab forward to insert the photoconductor unit. Click here for an illustration.

  9. Push the photoconductor unit until it clicks into place as seen here.

  10. Gently pull the printhead wipers out until they stop, and then slowly slide them back into place. Click here for an illustration.

  11. Close the cover as seen here.

  12. Rotate the release lever clockwise to lock the cover. Click here for an illustration.

  13. Close the front door as seen here.
