How to Repackage the Lexmark C73x Series Printer for Engineering Analysis

Overview:

The steps listed below should be followed when repackaging the printer to be sent back for engineering analysis.

Preparation:

  • Always use at least two people to lift the printer.
  • Always turn off the printer (using the power switch) and unplug it before repackaging it.
  • Disconnect all cords and cables connected into the printer prior to repackaging it.Important! It is necessary to observe these precautions closely in order to avoid injury to yourself and damage to the printer. Failure to repackage the printer properly before shipping can result in damage to the printer that is NOT covered by the printer's warranty.

Remove Waste Toner Bottle (WTB) and dispose it. Warning: If WTB is not removed, toner will explode from bottle during shipping.


Note:
The return label (12A8189) can be found in any after-market cartridges and waste toner bottle replacement box.

2Remove paper and re-position the back restraints of the 550 tray assembly to A5, see red in right-hand image.

Keep the following supply items in printer for analysis:

  • Developers
  • PCUs
  • Fuser

4Close top door then front door. Using Tape to secure Front Access Door Cover to the Side Covers at its upper left and upper right corners and secure Op Panel Display along its top edge to the Top Access Door as illustrated in right-hand image. Also secure the 550 tray assembly.

5Position Bottom Cushion (see red box in right-hand image) onto Printer Removal Tray (see blue arrow in right-hand image). Fold Tray flap against rear surface of Cushion and secure with Tape (see red arrow in right-hand image).

Position bag onto cushion.
Note:
The seam of the bag is illustrated as the broken red line in right-hand image.

7USING HANDHOLDS ONLY, place Printer into bag resting on cushion ensuring rear portion of Printer Covers containing Paper Tray Cover rest within Cushion (see image below).

Raise Bag around Printer and secure along top/rear edge of Printer with Cable Tie or tape.


Note:
Verify Printer rests in Cushion without damaging Paper Tray Cover.

9Position Printer Carton with it's top opening facing printer's rear side, carton's side containing "doggy door" (see red box in right-hand image) on printer's left side and carton's bottom flaps folded "closed".

10Position Top Right Cushion (see red arrowin right-hand image) and Top Left Cushion (see blue arrow in right-hand below) onto printer, slide Printer with Tray and Cushions into Carton (see image below)

11Mark out or cover any old label and attach appropriately printed Return Label (see red box in right-hand image) onto side of Carton (side containing "doggy door", see blue box in right-hand image).

Rotate Carton 90 degrees.
