Overview

Your paper may print out creased or have nicks and/or tears. This damage happens regardless if you are printing simplex (i.e., single-sided) or duplex (i.e., on both sides) of the page.

Explanation

One of the following may be the cause of this issue:

-The paper is not correctly loaded in the paper tray.
-You are printing on a special type of paper or other media.
-There are obstructions in the path where the paper travels.

Troubleshooting

StepAction
1 Ensure that the paper is loaded properly into the tray. Verify that the guides are not putting too much pressure on the paper stack. Such pressure may cause the paper to curl as it feeds out of the tray.
2 Ensure the paper size and type on the printer settings match that of the paper loaded on the tray.
3 Verify if the printer supports the weight, size and type of the loaded paper. To see the supported paper sizes, types and weights of this printer, please refer to the printer's User's Guide.

NOTE:
If the issue continues after considering the steps above, a service action may be required to correct the issue. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional information and suggestions.

Explanation

The paper nicks and creases can be seen on the lower-right edge of the printed paper when using Tray 1. It is suspected that the metal guide in Tray 1 is causing the problem.

Troubleshooting

StepAction
1 Attempt to go through all of the customer-level checks before replacing any parts on the printer.
2

If the issue is present regardless whether they are printing in simplexor duplex, replace the Tray 1 with the newest level tray; i.e., CRU:40X5273.

3

If the issue ONLY happens when printing in duplex, make sure the Duplex settings is configured properly. To do this, log in to the printer’s Diagnostics mode.Procedure:

  1. Power off the printer.

  2. Press and hold the

    and
    arrow buttons.

  3. Power on the printer while pressing and holding these.

  4. Go to Duplex Test.

  5. Do a Quick Test/Continuous print to check if there is skew on the page and if the nicks are present.

  6. Change the skew under the Duplex Test menu if needed. It is recommended to change the Duplex skew to Positive value while still maintaining a good skew result to reduce/remove the nicks.
