`900.00 Service RIP Error? Displays After Replacing the Flatbed Scanner Assembly for a Lexmark X73x Series Printer

Overview

The ‘900.00 Service RIP Error’ message normally requires a service call, especially if caused by an unrecoverable engine electronic hardware error in the system controller board. However, if a 900.00 Service RIP Error message displays on the printer's operator panel after the device has undergone service by replacing the flatbed scanner assembly, the issue is caused by a damaged or loose ribbon cable in the scanner’s flatbed.

Troubleshooting

Perform the following steps to determine if a service call is required:

Wait for 30 seconds, and then power on the printer/MFP again. Did the error message return?

Yes: Continue to Step 3 or go to Contacting Lexmark.No: Print and scan a test page. If the page prints, continue normal use of the printer/MFP. Observe it for the next few days to see if the 900.00 error returns.


NOTE:
If you have already tried powering the printer off and on, then skip ahead to Step 3.

3Power off the printer/MFP and unplug the network cable from the device.

If possible, connect the printer's power cord directly into a grounded wall outlet. Did the error message return?

Yes: A service call may be required. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for assistanceNo: Print and scan a test page. If the page prints, continue normal use of the printer/MFP. Observe it for the next few days to see if the 900.00 error returns.


NOTE:
This step is especially important if the 900.00 errors occur intermittently. Power strips, surge protectors, extension cords and uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) can trigger a false 900.00 error. This is true even if the printer has worked on this surge device previously.
