Five beeps with diamonds on display or no power on display

What you will see

If the printer operator panel displays diamonds, or if you hear multiple beeps coming from the printer, or if the operator panel exhibits a blank display as though it is not receiving power, please follow the instructions below.

NOTE: While this issue often requires service, it may be temporary and capable of resolution without assistance from Lexmark Technical Support.

Troubleshooting

  1. Power off the printer/MFP.

  2. Wait for 30 seconds, and then power on the MFP again. Did the problem continue?

    YES: Continue with Step 3.

NO: Try printing again. If the document prints correctly, the display panel issue may have been an isolated incident. However, observe the printer closely over the next two weeks to see whether the issue returns.

Note: If you have already tried powering the printer off and on, skip ahead to Step 3.

  3. If the printer is on and the operator panel displays diamonds or is completely blank, power off the printer/MFP and unplug the power cord.

  4. Clean dust or any other build-up from the printer’s power cord. If the power cord is damaged, it will need to be replaced. This will require a service action on the printer. Please contact a local authorized service center or Lexmark Technical Support.

  5. If possible, connect the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet. Power on the printer again.

Note: If printer's power cord is plugged into a power strips, surge protectors, extension cords and uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), unplug it and connect it directly to a grounded wall outlet. Some of these devices can interfere with consistent electrical flow and cause the printer to fail to power up properly. This is true even if the printer has worked on this surge device previously. If this is not possible, confirm that the power strip is switched on and functioning correctly.

  6. If the printer/MFP comes on as expected, try printing. If the printing is fine, continue using the printer but observe it for the next few days. If the issue does not return, the printer should be fine.

  7. If connecting the printer/MFP directly to the wall outlet does not clear the diamonds, or if the diamonds return shortly after the printer is powered on, it may need service. Diamonds on the display panel on power up usually indicate that an electronic board within the printer has locked up. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support or a local authorized service provider for additional troubleshooting steps.

If the issue persists, search for more information related to this issue or contact support for further assistance.
