Marks, Splotches, or Clouds of Toner Print Near the Edges of the Printout of a Lexmark C73x/X73x Printer/MFP

Overview

Splotches of random color print in areas that should not have them. These marks may not cover the entire page from left to right, but they usually do cover the page from top to bottom.
NOTE:
These splotches are not speckled or dotted; rather, the effect is a diffuse and cloudy appearance. See samples below.

Progression Sample: This shows how the issue changes with more toner cartridge usage. You may not notice it until it becomes severe enough in white areas.

Troubleshooting

For this kind of issue, the following symptoms can be observed:

The issue does NOT occur as different colors. Most likely, only a single color of toner cloud can be seen.
It usually starts up as dark splotches at the edge in light areas of the defect color (i.e., see the progression sample above).
The issue may not cover the entire page from left to right, but it can show from top to bottom.

The best way to resolve the issue is to perform the Color Adjust Procedure on the printer. See the following steps:

For Lexmark C73x printer

button.
2 Press

appears next to Settings, then press

appears next to Quality Menu, then press

appears next to Color Adjust, press
to initiate the auto-alignment process.

The printer will return to Ready mode once the progress bar reach 100%.

Send a print job and check the result. Did the Color Adjust corrected the issue?

Yes: Issue resolved.No: Contact Lexmark Technical Support for other troubleshooting suggestions.

For Lexmark X73x MFP

StepAction
1 While the printer is Ready, touch the
icon.
2 Press
next to Settings.
3 Press
to scroll down, and press
next to Print Settings.
4 Press
next to Quality Menu.
5 Press
to scroll down. Look for Color Adjust and press the
icon next to it. This initiates the auto-alignment process.

Send a print job and check the result. Did the Color Adjust corrected the issue?
