To maintain optimal print quality, it is necessary to replace the photoconductor unit/kit at recommended intervals. The photoconductor unit is rated for 30,000 single-sided pages. However, it may need to be replaced more often if you are printing double-sided pages or pages with a high coverage of text/images. The printer should display a Photoconductor (PC) Life Warning or a Replace Photoconductor message on the printer screen when the photoconductor unit is near or past its expected life rating. NOTE: Since the E260 models do not have a screen, they display instead a particular light sequence to let you know the photoconductor kit is near its end of life.
|WARNING! The "84 Replace (PC) Photoconductor" message is posted when the PC unit reaches is maximum usable life. It is important that you install a new PC unit at this time, before you clear the “Replace PC Kit” message. Failure to do so will result in poor print quality and/or damage to the printer.|
It may also be necessary to replace the photoconductor unit before the end of its functional life in order to correct a print quality problem such as toner streaks on the page.
Replacing the photoconductor unit/kit
NOTE! When replacing a photoconductor unit, do not leave the new photoconductor unit exposed to bright light (especially sunlight) for an extended period of time. Extended exposure to light can damage the photoconductor drum and create print quality issues such as light print or a gray background on the page.
