Overview
To maintain optimal print quality, it is necessary to replace the photoconductor unit/kit at recommended intervals. The photoconductor unit is rated for 30,000 single-sided pages. However, it may need to be replaced more often if you are printing double-sided pages or pages with a high coverage of text/images. The printer should display a Photoconductor (PC) Life Warning or a Replace Photoconductor message on the printer screen when the photoconductor unit is near or past its expected life rating. NOTE: Since the E260 models do not have a screen, they display instead a particular light sequence to let you know the photoconductor kit is near its end of life.
| WARNING! The "84 Replace (PC) Photoconductor" message is posted when the PC unit reaches is maximum usable life. It is important that you install a new PC unit at this time, before you clear the “Replace PC Kit” message. Failure to do so will result in poor print quality and/or damage to the printer. |
It may also be necessary to replace the photoconductor unit before the end of its functional life in order to correct a print quality problem such as toner streaks on the page.
Replacing the photoconductor unit/kit
NOTE! When replacing a photoconductor unit, do not leave the new photoconductor unit exposed to bright light (especially sunlight) for an extended period of time. Extended exposure to light can damage the photoconductor drum and create print quality issues such as light print or a gray background on the page.
Power off the printer.
Press the button on the left side of the printer and open the front cover/access door.
Remove the print cartridge assembly.
Grasp the toner cartridge handle and pull up and out.
Place the print cartridge assembly on a flat, clean surface.
Separate the toner cartridge from the photoconductor unit.
Press the button on the base of the photoconductor unit.
Grasp the toner cartridge handle, and pull the toner cartridge up and out.
Unpack the new photoconductor kit/unit.WARNING! Be careful not to touch the photoconductor drum. Doing so may leave a mark on the roller and affect the quality of future print jobs.
Install the toner cartridge into the new photoconductor unit.
Align the rollers on the toner cartridge with the arrows on the tracks on the photoconductor.
Push the toner cartridge in as far as it will go. It should click into place when correctly installed.

Install the print cartridge assembly into the printer. To do this:
Align the arrows on the guides of the print cartridge assembly with the arrows on the tracks in the printer.
Push the print cartridge assembly in as far as it will go.
Close the front cover.
Reset the photoconductor counter in order to remove any Photoconductor (PC) Life Warning or Replace Photoconductor messages on the printer screen. For directions on how to reset the photoconductor counter, refer to the instruction sheet that shipped with the new photoconductor kit or click the appropriate printer model below.
