Slow Driver Responsiveness when Opening Printing Preferences or Print Dialog

ENUS455

What you will see

Slow driver response is observed when opening Printer Preferences or the Print Dialog window.

Products Affected

  • Print server running Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or greater
  • UPD 2.0 or greater

Suggested Action

Contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional diagnosis and escalation; however...

Before calling the support center, perform these steps:

  1. Confirm the Products Affected.

  2. Reproduce the problem.

To do this:

a. Work with the connected-to

print queue

only, and locate this registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\connections\<

Print queue

>\DevMode

(
NOTE:
Click image below to enlarge it.)

b. Delete this key.

NOTE:
Some or all end-user configured driver settings will be lost. If this is a concern, you can choose to export this key for later reimportation back into the registry.

c. Open Printer Preferences and click OK. Alternatively, open an application's Print Dialog window.

d. Initially, you should see a noticeable improvement in performance, but you should now identify whether these symptoms return and confirm the recreation of the DevMode registry key.

  1. You will repeat these steps (2a-d) in order to establish a clear relationship between the symptoms and the creation of this registry key.

  2. Perform a ping test on the client using the print server's IP address, and then capture a screen shot of these results. This is required to identify network latency between client and server.

  1. Submit operation system versions, driver versions, and all your test results to a member of Lexmark's technical support team.
