Resetting the photoconductor page count

Issue description

You must reset the photoconductor page count every time you replace the photoconductor unit. Otherwise, the printer will not register the new photoconductor and will operate as though the old photoconductor unit were still installed. The printer therefore will continue to display an 84 – PC Kit life or a Photoconductor (PC) Life Warning message. In addition, once the old, unreset photoconductor page count reaches a certain point, the printer will stop printing and display an 84 – Replace PC Kit or a Photoconductor Exhausted message.

Note:  The photoconductor page count should be reset only when a completely new photoconductor kit is installed. Resetting the page count without replacing the photoconductor kit will cause the photoconductor to operate beyond its intended life and will create print quality issues or possible damage to the printer.

Solution

To reset the photoconductor page count:

  1. After installing the new PC unit and the machine has been restarted, leave the printer ON and open its front cover, then press and hold the Stop / Cancel () button.

  2. Wait for “Resetting PC Counter” message to show on the panel then let go of the button.

  3. Close the front cover. If you wish to confirm that the photoconductor page count has reset, print a menu settings page. To do that do the following:

    • From the home screen, touch Settings / Menu > Reports > Menu Settings Page.
    • On the menu settings page(s), look for an entry called PC Kit. If the counter has been reset correctly, the PC Kit should read OK.

Alternate method: If pressing the Stop / Cancel did not reset the photoconductor page count, follow the steps below to enter the pritner’s Configuration menu and reset the counter.

  1. Power off the printer and hold down buttons 2 and 6.

  2. Power on the printer while keeping these buttons pressed down. Let go of the buttons after ten seconds.

  3. After successfully accessing the Configuration menu, press Rest PC Cnt, and then press Yes.

  4. Once reset is complete, press Exit Config Menu

More details:

A Photoconductor (PC) Life Warning or an 84 – PC Kit life message indicates that the photoconductor unit is nearing the end of its functional life and should be replaced soon. The recommended action is to replace the photoconductor unit or have an extra one in stock. You can press the green Start button to clear this message and continue printing.

A Photoconductor Exhausted or an 84 – Replace PC Kit message indicates that the photoconductor unit has run through its functional life. At this point, you must replace the photoconductor unit and reset the photoconductor page count to clear this message.

Note:  The printer will stop working once this message appears. You cannot clear it without replacing the photoconductor unit and resetting the photoconductor page count.
