The Paper Is Not Stacking Straight when It Exits a Lexmark T64x, X64x, T65x or X65x Series Printer

ENUS31494

What you will see

The paper excessively curls and is not stacking straight after it exits the printer.

Recommended actions

Try one or more of the following suggestions:

  • Confirm that the paper bail guide is installed. This device helps keep the paper from shifting or curling as it feeds out of the printer and into the output bin. Click here to see a sample image of a paper bail guide.
  • Are you printing on plain copy paper? If not, try printing again using 20 lb (75 g/(m^2)) plain copy paper. Certain media types (such as envelopes, transparencies, and labels of any type) are more difficult for the printer to feed. In addition, lighter-weight paper is more prone to slipping and curling, which can lead to the paper stack becoming misaligned.
  • Keep media stored in its original packaging. Please avoid having open media sitting on the shelf. If the media has been removed from its ream wrapper, please store it in an office environment to keep it dry.

    NOTE:
If the printer is situated in a hot and/or humid environment, it is advisable to flip the paper over in the tray before printing at the start of the day. Do this especially if the paper inside the tray has been already loaded for an extended period of time.

  • Try changing the Paper Texture setting for plain paper to Smooth, and the Paper Weight setting for plain paper to Light. Changing these settings will lower the operating temperature of the fuser, which has a great impact on reducing curl. (See the printer's User's Guide for instructions on how to change these settings.)

    NOTE:
At the resulting lower fuser temperature, a small chance exists that toner may have difficulty adhering to the paper. If toner/print begins to rub off the page after printing, therefore, return the Paper Texture and Paper Weight settings to Normal.

  • If you are printing multiple job with different paper sizes (letter, legal, etc.), try removing the paper after each print jobs. Do the same especially if you are printing multiple and/or large print jobs. If possible, try to break it up into smaller print jobs. When the stack height of the paper in the tray is low, stacking issues occur less frequently.
  • Consider purchasing a finisher option and installing it onto the printer. The finisher option contains a mechanism that helps straighten the paper. If the printer already has a finisher option installed, try feeding the paper to the finisher option instead of through the standard output bin.

NOTE: The finisher option works with all T65x series printers and the X658 models. If you have any other output options installed, you will need to remove them in order to use the finisher option.

  • If the issue continues after you have tried all of the suggestions above, please contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional information. In most cases, a service call on the printer will not correct this issue.
