A 290, 291, or 292 Paper Jam Message Is Displayed on an X4600 Series Scanner

ENUS31321

Explanation

A 290, 291, or 292 paper jam message indicates that the scanner unit thinks a sheet of paper has jammed in its automatic document feed (ADF) mechanism.

What to do

Follow the steps in the table below to locate and remove the jammed sheet of paper.

StepActionImage
1 Open the ADF cover.

NOTE: Make sure the ADF cover is completely open as this will make it easier to locate and remove any jammed paper.

2Remove the jammed paper by carefully pulling it straight out. Close the ADF cover.
3 If the paper cannot be accessed or removed easily from the ADF cover, open the scanner cover. Locate and carefully remove the jammed paper.

IMPORTANT! Make sure not to fold or crease the ADF tabs (A) when removing the paper. Damaging the tabs may cause further paper jam issues to occur.

4Close the scanner cover. Load the paper back into the ADF and try printing again. NOTE: Make sure the paper has been inserted all the way into the ADF.
5If the jamming continues, try testing the ADF with sheets of plain copy paper, if you are not already doing so. This will eliminate the print media as a possible cause of the jamming.

NOTE: For a list of paper and other media you should not use in the ADF, Types of Paper to Avoid When Using the Automatic Document Feeder on the X4600 Scanner.

6If the jamming continues with plain copy paper, try cleaning the pick roller and the pick pad on the ADF before seeking service on the scanner.
  • For directions on how to clean the pick roller,
  • For directions on how to clean the pick pad,
7If the jamming continues after all of the above steps have been tried, a part on the ADF may need to be replaced. This will require a service action. For assistance in setting up service, please contact Lexmark Technical Support or a local authorized service provider.
