How to Change the Toner Cartridge on a Lexmark T64x Series Printer

Removing the used print cartridge

  1. Open the upper front door. NOTE: Before opening the upper front door, remove any print jobs from the output bins.

    • Push the outside release latch, and lower the multipurpose feeder.
    • Push the inside release latch, and open the top front cover.

  2. Grasp the print cartridge by the handle.

  3. Lift the print cartridge up and out.

  4. Set the used cartridge aside.

  5. Using a clean, lint-free cloth, gently clean the shaded areas by wiping toward the front of the printer. WARNING: Do not touch the transfer roller (B).CAUTION! The rear portion of the inside of the printer is hot due to the fuser. Allow time for the printer to cool before attempting to clean any parts in this part of the printer.

Installing the new print cartridge

  1. Remove the new cartridge from the packaging (C).

  2. Remove the red plastic piece (D) and foam (E). Save the packaging and foam to return the used print cartridge. WARNING! Do not touch the photoconductor drum on the underside of the print cartridge.

  3. Hold the print cartridge by the handle and gently shake it from side to side to distribute the toner.

  4. Hold the print cartridge by the handle and insert it into the printer. Align the tabs (F) on each side of the print cartridge with the slots (G) on each side of the print cartridge cradle.

  5. Slide the print cartridge into the printer until it snaps into place.

  6. Close the upper front door.

  7. Close the multipurpose feeder door.

  8. Follow the instructions on the new print cartridge box to recycle the used print cartridge. NOTE: When you return a used print cartridge, you contribute to a worldwide recycling effort at no cost to you.

IMPORTANT! The manufacturer does not recommend using print cartridges from a third-party refiller. Print quality and printer reliability cannot be guaranteed if you do. Also, the print cartridge warranty is voided by unauthorized refilling. For best results, use genuine Lexmark supplies.

Notes:

  • You should order a new print cartridge when a Toner Low message first appears so that you will have it in stock when the current cartridge no longer prints satisfactorily. See the User's Guide for more information. Store the print cartridge in the original packaging until you are ready to install it. Do not store the print cartridge in:

    • Temperatures greater than 40°C (104°F).
    • An environment with extreme changes in humidity or temperature.
    • Direct sunlight.
    • Dusty places.
    • A car for a long period of time.
    • An environment where corrosive gases are present.
    • An environment with salty air.
