Locate the hard drive inside the scanner unit. Confirm that a hard drive is installed.

NOTE: Locating the hard drive will involve some dismantling of the scanner unit. For detailed directions on how to access the location for the hard drive, please contact Lexmark Technical Support.
Check the cable connecting the hard drive to the Scanner PCI Card. Push in on the connections at each end of the cable to make sure the cable is fully connected.
After checking each end of the cable, power the printer and scanner unit on once more. See if the error message returns. If it does not, try using the scanner unit.
If the scanner works properly, continue normal use. Pay close attention to the printer over the next few days to see if the error returns.
If the error returns on power-up or when using the scanner, arrange a warranty service action* and replace the following parts:
- Scanner PCI Card Assembly (Part number:40X2584)
- Hard Drive (Part Number: 40X2195)
*If the scanner unit was recently exchanged under warranty service, please read the notice below before arranging for another warranty service action.
